PLOT: Eight friends at a dinner party experience a troubling chain of events due to the malevolent influence of a passing comet.
Director: James Ward Byrkit
The term ‘Coherence’ means logical interconnection. In terms of the movie it means there is a possibility of two or more alternate realities occurring at the same time due to some astronomical occurrences.
The movie begins with eight friends who gather for a dinner party somewhere in California on the night of a huge comet passing overhead. The believable crosstalk between the friends regarding career, shared histories sets the tone of a light hearted drama which suddenly gets stilled when the lights go out with the sole exception of a brightly lit house about
two blocks away.
Things get interesting when they understand that there could be a different reality going on at the same place, at the same time. The focus on small details are really worth mentioning as they create a deeper impact on the viewer’s perspective. The twists keep coming to keep the viewer seated till the end. The end itself keeps the audience guessing.
The movie was shot in 5 days with 75% of improvisation by the actors during the shooting and the hand-held camera work makes the movie much more realistic and believable.
The performances are good enough to engage the viewer for 90 mins.
All in all it’s a treat for people who like complex plots and crisply edited movies.
